March 15-16, 2019 

This weekend course will introduce you to the exhilarating sport of ice climbing. Come and learn during a fantastic training and expereince day on our 50 foot high ice tower!

Topics will include the history of ice climbing, ice tools, crampons, climbing ropes, and basic ice climbing skills and technique. No previous experience necessary. Trained and experienced staff will have you climbing vertical ice in no time in a relaxed environment with other likeminded individuals. All of this will take place in a safe and encouraging atmosphere, surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the Canadian Rockies. The course is limited to twelve participants, ages 15 and up. *Note: Those age 15-17 must be accompanied by an adult age 18+ in order to participate in the course.

  • 8:00pm:
  • Registration Begins (Please be here right at 8pm, so we can begin promply)
  • Intro to Frontier Lodge, the Staff and Participants
  • Orientation and Overview of the Weekend
  • 9:00pm:
  • Hangout and Snack
  • Saturday
  • 8:00am:
  • Breakfast
  • 9:00am:
  • Gearing up (helmets, harness, boots and crampons)
  • Head down to the on-site ice tower for demonstation of techniques
  • Practice climbing
  • 12:00pm:
  • Lunch In the Lodge
  • presentation on history of ice equipment, ice climb grading, & dealing with potential hazards.
  • 1:30pm:
  • Move outside to the tower for belaying and more climbing
  • 4:00pm
  • Rental return, and departure
